A/N: Written for the September 2009 housecuddylolol House/Cuddy Crack!Fic-a-Thon. Some thematic references to the episode "Top Secret" (3x16). The title is a reference to the Sherlock Holmes short story "The Adventure of the Empty House." Warning: a bad pastiche of hard-boiled crime fiction follows. An early December dusk was falling on the seedier side of Princeton. A saxophone could be heard noodling on a minor-key theme. I know that this relates to statistics, and my filthy little mind is misinterpreting the meaning and pronunciation of "probability," but....yeah. Which reminds me: Are there any Harry Potter kink memes out there on the interwebs? People seem to be having so much fun with the Star Trek KM. And I want to write something for this year's Bring Back the Porn challenge, and I don't have any smutbunnies suitable to a short fic. Alternately, other sources of prompts might be useful. Warning: allusion to the AS/S Ship. 8:00am: An owl landed on what had been an appetising omelette. "We regret to inform you that your grandmother's condition has not improved...." 9:30am: Not only did someone break into his personal greenhouse to steal Venomous Tentacula cuttings, but the door was left unlatched, and Dugbogs got at the Mandrakes. 11:00am: Scorpius shoved Albus Severus into a heap of dragon dung. Can't they just have wallsex, like their fathers? 12:30pm: An owl landed next to his plate. "Luna Lovegood and Rolf Scamander invite you...." 4:31 pm	Watchmen: good but... ...not sprained-ankle good. (I made a point of going to the big historic movie theater with a balcony, and then stumbled while coming down.) (I actually don't even know for a fact that it's definitely sprained, but I'm about to take a nap with an icepack; we'll see how I feel later.) Spoilers will be given only on request. I will say: 1) the movie is long, much as the LOTR/HP movies are long; the movie makers made a point of putting on screen as much of the source material as realistically possible. 2) I'm really liking Dan/Nite Owl II; I'm guessing he's the fandom's woobie (even if he does end up with the girl)? The bad news: a fight is impending, because my mother is living in a chaotically messy house, made excuses when my sister and I tried to bring up the subject, and brushed off offers of help. NOT NOT NOT looking forward to the next skirmish. And I've identified a county agency that counts "self-neglect" as part of its mission, but I do NOT want to sic the authorities on her.
