"Hey losers, he's not here." The dining car occupants collectively held their breath until the dark-robed Death Eater exited the compartment.
"Not you too!" burst forth from Ginny. Neville grabbed Ginny's arm and marched her into a pantry off of the dining area, casting locking and silencing charms behind them.
"Here." Neville produced a handkerchief from a pocket of his jacket, and reached out to brace Ginny, as the Hogwarts Express jerkingly started again. She threw her arms around him, and in a voice broken by sobs, told him about the events of the last several weeks--George losing an ear and Mad-Eye Moody dying while helping bring Harry to the Burrow; Death Eaters crashing Bill and Fleur's wedding; Ron, Hermione, and Harry disappearing without being heard from since; her father going into the Ministry every day even as he received increasingly nasty anonymous notes denouncing him as a "blood traitor." "And now you stand up to that bastard Selwyn like that, and--I was terrified I’d lose someone else again."
"Oh, Ginny," Neville breathed, and wrapped his arms around her, pulling him close to his chest, waiting for Ginny's breathing to return to normal. For a few minutes they swayed to the clicketa-clicketa of the train running along the rails. Neville pushed Ginny away, just a little, to look Ginny in the eyes. "But I have to. For the sake of my parents."
Ginny immediately remembered that Christmas two years previously, when they had chanced upon Neville with his mother and father in St Mungo's. "You see, at Scrimgeour's funeral, I finally got to talk to Kingsley Shacklebolt--he knew my parents when they were Aurors. He told me that during the last war, the Auror Department was seriously split over what was appropriate use of the Unforgiveable Curses. My mum and dad sided with Moody, who kept bothering the Ministry about its policy. And that became really awkward, because Scrimgeour was my mum's uncle. But you see, that means I have to stand up when I see something wrong.
"I've already talked to Luna about restarting the DA when we get to Hogwarts, and she's all for it."
"Yes," Ginny responded, with possibly her first smile in the last several weeks.
"Exactly how I thought you'd respond." With that, Neville undid the locking charms on the door, and with Ginny, marched out to find Luna and start planning.
